. . . compelling and wonderful story. An awakening for sure! The motto of the Jewish National Fund is to teach our leaders that you must stand up and be counted. Your book exemplifies that.
—Russell F. Robinson, CEO, Jewish National Fund

As a Jewish child growing up in the United States, Penny S. Tee was raised to care about Israel. However as an adult, events in her ancestral homeland took a back seat to the concerns of her everyday life as a stay-at-home mom and wife. She made the occasional donation to Jewish fundraising campaigns and then went about her daily business. Israel was a blip on the radar screen of her life.

All that changed when Penny was thrust to the front lines of the Israeli/Palestinian conflict while vacationing in Israel in 2014. Cowering in a bomb shelter with her family as missiles exploded around them, Penny witnessed the terrors of war firsthand . . . and she would never be the same again.

BLASTED from COMPLACENCY: A Journey from Terror to Transformation in Israel is Penny’s compelling, true account of her harrowing ordeal and how it jolted her out of inaction, caused her to rethink her beliefs and helped her find her life’s purpose.

Penny goes beyond the politics, headlines and rhetoric to humanize the conflict, painting a vivid picture of the grim reality faced daily by Israelis and Palestinians as they struggle to live their lives under the constant threat of attack, injury and death.

She reveals how her experience of being a human target impacted her life and psyche, reshaping her priorities and igniting in her the desire to work for change. She details her journey of personal transformation from a casual bystander to an activist for peace and reconciliation. And she shares the valuable life lessons and remarkable insights she has gained along the way.

In addition to her own story, Penny also writes about those on both sides of the struggle who are working for peace in Israel. And to help readers who are on their own path to discovery, she even includes an overview of the teachers, publications and films that helped guide and shape her transformation.

An authentic chronicle of one woman’s inspiring, ongoing quest for peace both within herself and in the world around her, BLASTED from COMPLACENCY is a revelation with the power to open minds and change hearts.
